Strovolos – Tseriou Ave.

Food Park City is one of the first projects in Cyprus to be a permanent installation for street food.

Located on a busy road, Tseriou Ave., Food Park City covers 4 plots, of a total area of 2040 sq. m.

The challenge of Studiomk35 - Architects was to create an identity for a type of building relative to food services without any local typological examples to look into.

The project requirements was for 4 main areas - the food order and pickup with the kitchen and storage facilities, the open air seating, the beer garden and the kids’ area.

The approach was to give an open space concept by separating each function from another, providing a park atmosphere. This effect was enhanced by using open air elements like the pergola for the beer garden, the low wood fence for the kids’ park area while the trees and the low bushes were used for determining the open air seating.

From the beginning of the project, one of the main goals was for the visitor to be able to see the food being prepared so the food order/ pickup was essential to have the kitchen located in its background. To achieve that, we created a shell with no columns so as to provide uninterrupted views and a completely open and functional space inside. We tried to enhance this dynamic by using glass to the building’s façade envelope that creates a fish bowl appearance both for the visitor inside the food park and also to the people passing by from the avenue.

For both the client and the designers, it was important to be able to give a green park view. In order to do so more than 120 trees and bushes were planted. The greenery is used to isolate the establishment from the surrounding houses in order to provide as much privacy as possible and also to clearly define each area.

The open air seating and the beer garden are located at the front facing Tseriou Ave. providing the visitor with views of the main road and the vibrant feeling because of the constantly moving traffic. The food pickup area, kitchen and storage facilities and kids’ park area are set at the back providing, especially for the kids’ area, a safer environment. Further back is the essential car park area that also serves as a noise barrier from the residential zone.
